Because We Love Him

John 14:15: If ye love me, keep my commandments.

We ought to obey the Lord because we love Him. We can obey Him for a multitude of other reasons, but when we obey Him for other reasons, we do not please Him nearly as much.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3: Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, (love) I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

2 Corinthians 5:14a: For the love of Christ constraineth us; . . .

Mark 12:30: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

1 John 4:19: We love him, because he first loved us.

Dear God, help us to absorb your love like sponges absorb water and give us a greater love for you.
